Stack Racks Give Safety And Efficiency To Your Warehouse

Stacker1

Shelves and shelf space, and the placement of shelves and containers ultimately affect the ability for you to utilize any space available.  The configuration and traffic patterns of your warehouse need to be optimized to ensure that your space is efficient.

This is where stackable racks from Tier-Rack can make your warehouse both more efficient and safer.  You can stack the racks together, and easily move them throughout your space, maximizing your space.

After you get your stackable racks, here are some other ways to maximize your space:

Be methodical when stacking items such that they are always in the same order, in a way that compliments each other. Doing this creates an order that allows easy retrieval, encouraging employees to more easily find items and to find them using the same, repeatable process, which creates efficiency over time. And, you are less likely to lose items and less likely to have spoilage of items that have a shorter shelf life while optimizing space available, which will create more shelf space for inventory storage.

Keep the space clean in your warehouse such that it is free of any unneeded items. If you organize your building in a way that maximises the given area, you can greatly improve the flow and efficiency of movement. More areas can be used when items are set in an area specifically designated for those items. The position and arrangement of the items greatly affects the available space given to you. A metric that is often used to measure this efficiency is “inventory turns.” The greater the number, the more times you are replenishing your inventory and making greater efficiency of your inventory space.

Think carefully and highly value every space used for any warehouse storage needs. If an item isn’t really needed to be stored locally, remove it. Only using space you truly need significantly improves the number of items you can fit in any given building, increasing efficiency and avoiding unnecessary expansion. Doing this can also help lower the cost for the maintenance and security of the facility you maintain.

Knowing your space and using it properly is the key to safe, efficient warehouse usage. Let us show you how our years of manufacturing experience can provide you with quality stack racks at a very affordable price. We buy steel tubing directly from the tube mills in truckload quantities. Then our talented and efficient teams in our low overhead production facilities transform the steel tubing into high quality portable racks that have been designed to meet your needs. Tire Racks Custom Built For Your Business

Many businesses need to store tires.  What some of them don't understand is HOW.  Tires, as a soft, malleable object, need to be stored in a way that they won't warp and deform, creating wobbly, dangerous tires that can cause blowouts and accidents.  Wobbly tires can mess up the alignment on a vehicle, and on an 18-wheeler, this is a huge problem costing thousands of dollars to fix.

Some companies have found themselves with unusable stock, simply because they have not stored their tires properly on a professional, custom built tire rack.  These tire racks are easily the safest way to safely store your tires, as they hold the tires on perforated decking that helps distribute the weight of the tire throughout, keeping it from warping.

Our center post Tier-Rack® tire stacking frame is a popular alternative for those who appreciate the ease of loading and unloading tires when there are no obstructions on the corners of the stack racks. These tire racks are also the least expensive storage solution for tires available. The frames easily attach to your existing warehouse pallets and will hold loads of 2,000 pounds per pallet when the racks are stacked five high.

Tier-Rack Corp of St. Louis, MO has been providing custom designed and manufactured tire racks since 1955.  Tier-Rack has created hundreds of customized racks for every shape and size of tire, using wire mesh and perforated decking to support the tires while keeping them from warping during long periods of non-use.  Let us show you how our years of manufacturing experience can provide you with quality earthmoving machine tire racks at a very affordable price. We buy steel tubing directly from the tube mills in truckload quantities. Then our talented and efficient teams in our low overhead production facilities transform the steel tubing into high-quality portable racks that have been designed to meet your needs. Give us a chance to prove to you that nobody does it better than Tier-Rack! Whether you need 100,000 tire racks or 10 tire racks, Tier-Rack is your best choice.  Visit www.tier-rack.com today!

Stack Rack Safety Tips From Tier-Rack

We here at Tier-Rack Corp believe in a few things.  American-made products, quality materials, and the value of giving customers what they pay for come to mind.  But the most important thing we believe in is safety.  Tier-Rack has some rules that we like to send to customers to follow, in order to create a safer, more harmonious work environment.  Finding the balance between safety and productivity is difficult, and we feel that these rules will help your company properly use storage racks for any product, including tire racks, in a safe and secure manner.

*Do not carry more than one rack at a time. The racks are manufactured for static loads, not lateral loads.

*Always read the label on the rack for its weight capacity and stack height.

*Do not overload racks. Tier-Rack stack racks are engineered to withstand twice the capacity rate just in case this happens.

*Do not use racks with damaged posts or bases. This (as with any type of racking) will greatly reduce the safety of the racking. We suggest if posts or bases are damaged, to call us and we will make replacements for your racks. Then please recycle the damaged material as soon as possible, so no one will grab and use them.

*Do not stack any higher than is stated on the label. Each rack is engineered specifically for each customer's maximum weight capacity. If they are stacked higher than they were engineered for, it could cause safety problems for employees.

*Tier-Rack engineers each rack to store product(s) to a given specification that is printed on the label. These calculations assume the weight on the rack is evenly distributed across the rack. Basically, don’t store anything heavy on one side and lightweight on the other. I know it is common sense, but it is good to share this information with the fork truck drivers and employees that may load the racks with product.

*Do not fabricate (drill holes, grind, cut) the posts or bases of the racks without contacting Tier-Rack first. This can cause safety concerns down the road. We can have our engineers on staff calculate if these practices will affect the integrity of the steel and it’s performance short term and long term.

*If you lose a label for the rack, just give us a call and we can send you replacement labels for you. Our labels are heavy duty and last for years, but sometimes they are damaged and knocked off. This is important because it tells your workers the specifications for the rack. If the label is missing it should be replaced immediately.

*Please call Tier-Rack if you are going to ever use the racks for shipment in your trucks or trailers. We can determine if they can safely be stacked, or they may not be stacked while shipping.

We feel that following these rules will help keep your employees safe and sound in their interactions with our racks and will give your company a safer work environment.  Feel free to print this list for your workplace to let your employees know the guidelines for rack safety, so that they can be as safe as possible and keep your company moving forward into the future.  Visit www.tier-rack.com today for more information.

Buy a Durable and Dependable Stack Rack From Tier-Rack

When you are purchasing storage racks, one of the main considerations is the durability and longevity of the product.  You don't want to purchase a rack and have it fold on you in less than a year, or have the welds break on you in transit.  While it's impossible to have 100% durability, when you make racks with superior metals and techniques, they will last longer and perform better for you.  That's why Tier-Rack is the top choice for storage racks for any business.  Tier-Rack provides storage racks for the long haul.

Tier-Rack salespeople are the first people you talk to when you call to order, and the last people you speak to after you place your order.  For example, when you purchase a tire rack from Tier-Rack, the sales team takes your order, the in-house engineering team designs your rack, the United States-based manufacturing warehouse fabricates the rack, and it's delivered to you.  Tier-Rack's sales team also follows with you every step - including helping to deal with inspectors and regulators if necessary.

However, not every company follows these guidelines.  There are horror stories about companies receiving 16 gauge racks instead of the 14 gauge that they have ordered.  How can you determine that you've gotten what you've paid for?  The only way to be sure, and this is with any rack company, is to weigh.  Ask your supplier what the weight should be on these racks, and weigh them when they arrive.  Don't take delivery on racks that come in too light, as that means that the supplier has skimped on the metal, and delivered you an inferior product.  Many racks, particularly those manufactured outside of the US, suffer from lighter gauge tubing and inferior manufacturing, and will not hold up over the long run.

Tier-Rack Corporation has been a leader in rack solutions and flexible warehouse racking systems for almost sixty years. The original Tier-RackR pallet stacking frame converts regular warehouse pallets into sturdy storage racks in seconds without screws or bolts. And the Load-NesterR all-steel storage rack features light and heavy duty models of solid all-welded, knock-down, or nestable designs for all your material handling needs. Warehouse Stack Rack Tips For a Great Summer

It’s a hot summer.  Nothing slows down production like a heat wave in your warehouse.  Think about it though – couldn’t your warehouse run more efficiently and quickly if the workers are comfortable?  As anyone who runs a warehouse can tell you, being uncomfortable leads to rushing leads to mistakes.  Here are a few ways to deal with warehouse heat and humidity to help make your warehouse run more efficiently through the summer.

What can you do

  1. Install high-volume A/C units.  Fastest and safest method to reduce heat and humidity.  May not be as effective if you have large bay doors that are open constantly, and doesn’t help outdoor workers.
  2. Some machinery is prone to overheating.  Make sure that if you have conveyor belts or other machinery that doesn’t perform well in the heat, try to keep it in the cooler parts of the building.
  3. Know your employees and workforce.  Not everyone handles the heat as well as others.  If you have employees that have trouble with the heat, consider moving them to a cooler area or giving them frequent breaks.
  4. Watering stations can really help with cooldown.  Keep stations at regular intervals and assign employees and resources to keep them filled.  An employee with heatstroke is a serious matter.  Not just lost work time, but a human being hurt in your warehouse.  If you see signs of heatstroke, or your employees do, rectify that right away.  Tell your employees to watch for signs such as dizziness and loss of breath.
  5. Lock in the cool air.  Vinyl strips can keep in as much as 60% of your cold air without disrupting the workflow of your warehouse.
  6. Industrial dehumidifiers are a huge comfort to employees. Taking the humidity down makes an immediate difference in the health and comfort of your workforce.

These are just some of the ways that you can make your warehouse more comfortable and effective.  Tier-Rack can help as well.  We have experience designing custom racks and helping companies utilize their space, both in the horizontal AND the vertical.  We can help your company whether you’re moving in or redesigning.  Call us today at 800-325-7869 or visit www.tier-rack.com for more information.  Don’t live with frustrating racks and unusable space any more.

How Do You Get Great Tire Racks?

A tire retailer needs many things in his warehouse, but the most important product that they can purchase is a stacking tire rack.  Tier-Rack Corporation, of St. Louis, is the nation's number one provider of tire racks, including both stacking and retail-ready racks, in the nation.  They are also the inventors of the Stack Rack, the unique stackable storage solution that has made warehouse functions run smoothly since 1955.  This knowledge and experience makes Tier-Rack the choice for any warehouse needs, including tire racks.

Finding the right warehouse tire rack is just as important.  Some companies need permanent structures, large, imposing racks that stay in one place and hold their cargo for years.  Other companies require more portable racks, allowing for the warehouse to be configured in different ways and for different stock to cycle through according to season and volume.  Tier-Rack can accomodate both of these needs, giving companies the safety of knowing that they have bought just the right storage rack for their company, and that they are made in the USA of the highest quality materials.

If you give Tier-Rack Corporation a chance to bid on your storage solutions, they will find both the price point and quantity that your company needs to store tires in their warehouse effectively, and the support and help of Tier-Rack's sales, manufacturing and engineering teams at each step of the process.  Contact them today at www.tier-rack.com and call (800) 325-7869 to talk to a sales consultant today.

Build Your Tire Warehouse With Tire Racks

Many companies store tires.  Whether they are manufacturers, retailers, repair shops, or businesses that need to replace tires often, like bus companies or taxi services, they need a way to store multiple tires safely, and many times, to ship them effectively as well.  Finding a way to store these tires is a constant battle between storing as much as possible, being able to easily access these tires, and being able to organize your warehouse.  Luckily, Tier-Rack Corporation has a way around this.

The Tier-Rack Stacking Rack, invented by Tier-Rack in 1955, is the industry leader in creating vertical, portable space in your warehouse.  The original Tier-Rack® pallet stacking frame converts regular warehouse pallets into sturdy storage racks in seconds without screws or bolts. And the Load-Nester® all-steel storage rack features light and heavy-duty models of solid all-welded, knock-down, or nestable designs for all your material handling needs.

Our portable stacking racks and rack systems are designed to handle and store even the most fragile, odd-shaped, and awkward merchandise. They can be designed to transport two loads at a time. Our stack racks reduce handling time, stack four to six high, and they are capable of supporting thousands of pounds per unit load. All styles of racking are engineered to meet and/or exceed the "2-to-1" safety factor established by the Rack Manufacturers Institute (RMI) for portable rack design specifications.

With Tire Racks, this is very important.  Tires must be stored so that there is not an excessive amount of pressure on the tire, which can cause warping and soft spots, damaging the live expectancy of the tire.  These can lead to blowouts and dangerous conditions, and angry customers as well!

For more information on Tire Racks and other Stacking Racks, visit www.tier-rack.com today, and call 1-800-325-7869 to speak to our sales team!

Shipping Racks For Your Business This Summer

As Summer heats up, shipping and warehouse issues become difficult.  It's hard to work in a really hot warehouse, so you want to have your materials ready to move and available.  That's where using top-quality Shipping Racks will push your business to new heights.  Using Shipping Racks that are designed to cube out a truck or to be moved quickly in and out of your facilities can cut time off of your employees' day and keep them out of the dangerous heat.  Using Shipping Racks just makes sense.

Let us show you how our custom designed shipping racks can help you cube out a trailer or shipping container and save on shipping costs. Calculate your ROI using our cost-saving shipping containers and you will see what a value they offer. We offer total design services for these stackable shipping racks, including AutoCAD® drafting. Often we can design a custom rack with no more than a prototype of the part to be shipped. Our product design team will deliver a solution that will hold your items securely in a cost-effective stack rack. Many types of interior protective dunnage are used to keep your parts from being damaged during transit.

We can design racks to span the width of a trailer often called Truck Decking, or racks to hold individual pallet loads sitting side by side like automotive racks.  Often these shipping racks or shipping containers are designed with sides that can fold down. This allows empty racks to be stacked more densely for lower freight costs on the return trip. This also prevents the rack posts from being misplaced in shipment. Whether your products are light and fragile or heavy and awkward to handle, we have the experience to help you move your parts safely.

Past applications include the following:

  • Transmissions
  • Hoods
  • Catalytic converters
  • Side panels
  • Glass
  • Palletized and boxed items

Let us show you how our years of manufacturing experience can provide you with quality shipping racks, truck decking and returnable racks at a very affordable price. While there is any number of reasons to buy American-made products, including helping American companies, putting money back into the economy, and growing the job market, a reason that should hit closer to home for companies is quality.  American made racks, such as the Tire Racks manufactured by Tier-Rack Corporation, are built in manufacturing centers located here, ensuring quality.  As Tier-Rack designs, sells, and manufactures the racks here, customers can be assured that every step in the process is Made In America.

This extends to quality.  When a Tier-Rack sales rep or engineer tells you that their racks are 14 gauge, you can be assured that they will be.  Making sure that the racks are the correct weight ensures that you know that you have gotten the thickness and stability that you paid for.  Your engineer or sales rep can tell you the weight that your rack should be at, and the racks can be weighed, or stacked and weighed for an average to determine the gauge by weight.

Tier-Rack Corporation has been a leader in rack solutions and flexible warehouse racking systems for almost sixty years. The original Tier-RackR pallet stacking frame converts regular warehouse pallets into sturdy storage racks in seconds without screws or bolts. New Shipping Rail Rack™ Cuts Freight In Half

LoadedFrontView

Computers have positively touched the rail industry like everywhere else and it's made rail car shipping  a big door-to-door savings for any company. Per Burlington Northern, "when you realize that one standard boxcar holds four times as much as one truck...you quickly begin to see the natural savings of rail rack..."

To further increase rail's savings, the Tier-Rack Corporation has developed a patented product, called the Rail Rack™, that for the first time enables companies to have their product double-stacked in a boxcar, getting even more savings from an already good deal.  Similar to Truck Decking, theRail Rack™ spans the inside of the car creating rail car storage for boxed or palletized items.

Here's How You Save on your Material Handling

3RailRack

The Rail Rack™ is placed in the boxcar and the first row of product is loaded on the floor under the shelving. Another level of product is then loaded on top of the Rail Rack™ steel shelving like a table, allowing you to double the railcar storage in the same air space! Fill the rail car with loaded rail car shipping racks. That's a huge savings!

What Size Do You Need?

The 100% steel racks are all designed for your pallet size. Just provide us with the depth, width, height and weight of your pallet load. We buy steel tubing directly from the tube mills in truckload quantities for our storage racks, storage bins and rail storage racks. Then talented and efficient teams in our low overhead production facilities transform the steel tubing into high quality portable racks. Give us a chance to prove to you that nobody does it better than Tier-Rack! Whether you need 100,000 railrack or 10 rails rack, Tier-Rack is your best choice for rail storage rack.

Storage Racks For Your Business

Tier-Rack® portable racks are used by thousands of customers in hundreds of industries. Some of our customers use our portable stacking rack as standard warehouse racks, or as a stacking bin. In this case they place their product directly on our mobile rack and save the cost of wooden pallets.

The protection provided by the corner posts of the portable rack is a primary benefit. Bulky or hard-to-stack products are contained within the corner posts of the mobile storage racks. This provides stability for goods on the portable pallet when moving it within the warehouse or factory.LN-3SteelSlatdeckfront

Others who use wood pallets and need to stack without causing product damage, find that our Tier-Rack® Pallet Stacking Frames fits their needs. The steel frame of the Tier-Rack® stacking rack clips onto the wood pallet, providing a secure “cage” that both allows the pallets to be safely stacked and protects the products within the rack enclosure.

LN3 long boxes short postsAnother use of portable storage racks is for handling work-in-process parts; a metal bin that holds several parts at one time, reducing plant traffic. They are custom racks designed to meet your needs, whether the parts to be handled are delicate or massive. Usually, these parts racks are designed as folding racks or collapsible racks.

Nestable racks are another type of portable stacking racks. These racks can be “nested”, or stacked inside of each other when empty, without removing the corner posts. Our Load-Nester® stacking racks
nest when not in use, and carry and stack loads of 4,000 pounds per rack or more. This can be beneficial in an active warehouse where unused space is at a premium.OutsideStorage

Whatever the application, whether it is for portable stack rack shipping racks, nesting racks, portable cart or warehouse storage racks – Tier-Rack has a portable stack rack that will do the job.

We start by only using the highest-quality materials in our American factories.  We build our racks right here in the US, under the highest standards.  Not every company can say that.  Tier-Rack was a founding member of the Rack Manufacturers Institute (RMI), which established the standards used by complying manufacturers of portable stack racks. We take the safety of our rack designs very seriously, for we know that avoiding the possibility of a rack failure is in the best interest of everyone.

We also have the best customer service in the industry.  We are there at every step of the way.  You work with the same sales rep throughout your relationship with Tier-Rack, with the continuity helping speed up the progress of your orders.

Even with our high standards and excellent service, our prices are the lowest in the industry.  Our years of experience have provided us the opportunity to learn how to produce quality products efficiently. We have learned which suppliers are reliable and consistently provide top quality steel at fair prices. Our manufacturing plants are located where they can provide reduced freight costs for most of our customers. Our experienced fabricators continue to find ways to reduce the cost of producing racks. Our financial strength means that our suppliers are willing to give us good prices because they know that they will be paid on time. All of these reasons combine to allow us to offer Tier-Rack stacking racks at low prices every day. Whether you need 10 racks or 100,000 racks, Tier-Rack is your best choice for portable racks, rack shelving, bins, tire racks, used rack, storage bins, shipping racks, pad rack, rack shelving, and material handling equipment.

Call Tier-Rack at 1-800-325-7869 and visit www.tier-rack.com to order and learn more about what products we offer.  Give Tier-Rack a chance to help you get your warehouse in order.

Seismic Support Makes Your Warehouse Safer

Seismic activity can be deadly to a warehouse.  If you don't have legitimate racks setup properly, they can fall and do real damage, and hurt your employees badly.  The last thing that you want is to have a poorly-optimized warehouse rack hurt someone.  Hwever, it happens all of the time with shoddy racks, or improperly ised storage racks.  If you stack too much product or go too high, above safety parameters, you are asking for real trouble.   That is why we build our racks with Seismic Support built-in, to keep you safe.

From Scientific American, September 2004...The leading techniques “try to absorb a lot of the ground motion energy so the building doesn’t have to,” says James Malley, senior principal at Degenkolb Engineers in San Francisco. That often means inserting heavy-duty fixtures between the building and its foundation, such as base isolators that act as rubber mats, viscous fluid dampers that operate like shock absorbers, or slide bearings that allow the building to sway instead of snap.

What this illustrates is similar to how our stacking pallets (sometimes called rack) perform.  They will sway and rock and absorb the shock.  We even have evidence of them scooting across the floor moving with the shock waves, but not failing.  As opposed to the rigid structure of bolted to the floor pallet racking, our rack's relatively "loose" fit acts as the dampers allowing for the necessary shock absorption to withstand inpact more efficiently.

Each municipality interprets and applies the IBC (International Building Code) differently.  Some inspectors don't use it at all and apply different codes to determine suitability of rack or bin design.  Tier-Rack has no way of knowing this from township to township so it is up to you to lay the groundwork.  Much of the confusion comes from the misapplication of standard "rack" codes to our portable material handling pallets.  "Racking" by definition is a bolted to the ground structure.  To apply those "racking" codes to our product is as erroneous as trying to apply it to a forklift.

Don't let our name fool you.  The name Tier-Rack was coined back in 1955 and is only a trade name.  Our product is truly a steel pallet, portable and stackable.  Steel portable stackable pallets are not structures. The steel portable stackable pallets are pieces of equipment intended to protect the product that is being moved around a warehouse. They are no different than wooden pallets or even crates. Materials in wooden crates or on wooden pallets are stored and stacked commonly on the ground (see picture to left).

The steel stackable pallets are no different. They are steel pallets which hold a product (just like wood pallets) with steel tube members that protect the product by supporting any additional steel pallets that one might stack on top of the lower steel portable stackable pallets. The tube post members are no different than the wooden panels of crates in that respect. They are not structures; there is no positive connection between each piece of the units; they are meant for temporary storage only and not intended to be permanent fixtures (just like wooden pallets of material stored on the ground).

A Safe Warehouse Follows These Rules

boxes4high

We here at Tier-Rack Corp believe in a few things.  American-made products, quality materials, and the value of giving customers what they pay for come to mind.  But the most important thing we believe in is safety.  Tier-Rack has some rules that we like to send to customers to follow, in order to create a safer, more harmonious work environment.  Finding the balance between safety and productivity is difficult, and we feel that these rules will help your company properly use storage racks for any product, including tire racks, in a safe and secure manner.

*Do not carry more than one rack at a time. The racks are manufactured for static loads, not lateral loads.

*Always read the label on the rack for it’s weight capacity and stack height.

Each rack is engineered specifically for each customers maximum weight capacity.

We feel that following these rules will help keep your employees safe and soound in their interactions with our racks and will give your company a safer work environment.  Feel free to print this list for your workplace to let your employees know the guidelines for rack safety, so that they can be as safe as possible and keep your company moving forward into the future.  Visit www.tier-rack.com today for more information.

Learn About How Stack Racks Work

MaximizeSpaceinWarehouse

Everyone that has a warehouse knows that a storage rack can be the only barrier between order and chaos.  Having a professional rack, made for your item and industry, keeps your warehouse clean and organized.  They give you a place for everything.  Different industries need different racks, but every business that stores anything needs racks.

Stacking Racks are a great solution for many businesses.  What are a few reasons to choose stack racks?

•Store more product in less space

•Contain products in stack

•Eliminate use of wood pallets

•Allow bulk storage, no aisles needed

•Rearrange storage layout easily

•Unused racks collapse to save space

•Protect products during shipment

•Economical solution to many needs

Our portable stacking racks and rack systems are designed to handle and store even the most fragile, odd-shaped, and awkward merchandise. They can be designed to transport two loads at a time. Our stack racks reduce handling time, stack four to six high, and they are capable of supporting thousands of pounds per unit load. All styles of racking are engineered to meet and/or exceed the "2-to-1" safety factor established by the Rack Manufacturers Institute (RMI) for portable rack design specifications.

Individual racks can be moved by pallet jacks or forklifts. Each rack can be stacked on top of other racks to create a column of three to six racks, depending on the size of the rack and the weight of the load in the racks. Empty racks save space when the posts or side frames are removed from the bases. Our rack system can help with any storage problem that you may have.

Call Tier-Rack today at 800-325-7869 and visit www.tier-rack.com today to purchase the right rack for your business.  Tier-Rack carries everything from tire racks to pad racks, and all storage racks in-between.  We also engineer custom racks, so if we don't have what you need, we can build it!
